PostSubject: Deep Funk comps from rare 45s and LPs   Wed Oct 08, 2008 8:35 pm

Why spend 12 hours playing through thousands of pounds worth of old records and recording the grooviest and rarest to upload for strangers to enjoy? Would’ve seemed stranger if you told me I’d be doing this ten years ago when I was on a serious mission to collect these rare grooves, traveling worldwide to USA, Canada, Europe. I even brought back funky soundtrack LPs from India. I still buy records every week but in the 90s when I started it was all about Lps. Now 7” are carrying the swing but it’s all good. I’m sharing partly because I appreciate so much the other sharers, partly because I DJ so rarely now I like the opportunity to air the sounds. These tunes are all taken from vinyl, mostly original, some represses. These collections are very multinational this time, with representations from Latin America- especially Brazil, Italy, England, West Africa, France, the Caribbean and India, as well as the usual players from North America- black, white and Latino. Some of these selections may be found to be quite left-field, some may be light, some very jazzy, but all have that soulful swing and funk power that gets them into the serenades series. You’ll hear storming dancers as well as laid back chill out sounds, next to more challenging listening. Beat diggers will be pleasantly surprised by the abundance of juicy breaks. I hadn’t played Tough Talk for a while and twigged it was the same tune as the Skatelites’ Tuff Talk (Tuneico). So now I’m looking for earlier American versions of that if you know any please hip me. Also get in contact if you’d like obviously lossless format CD copies of the below. Full colour sleeves for all discs are in the SS20 zip. If you like these collections you may well like my mixes available for download at http://mrsoundtapes.podomatic.com/
Though the styles of music on these are different and diverse. Check em out and be the first to leave a comment.
Enjoy
